Q – How does the designated driver program work for a wine tour?

A – Our driver will arrive at your lodging, leave their car there, drive your car and group to the wineries and SAFELY return you back to your lodging at the end of the day. Along the way you can stop wherever you want and stay at each location as long as you want. DD 3 w beth

Q – How does the designated driver program work for a reserved pick-up?

A – Be responsible and think ahead. If you have a special event such as a wedding or special night out let us drive you and your car home SAFELY. We send two drivers, one to drive your car the other to follow and bring our driver back.

Q – How much does it cost?

A – Wine tours are only $40 per hour for a driver with a 4 hour minimum.   ($35 Mon – Thurs, except holidays) Reserved pick-ups begin at $75 (Pick-up and drop off Greenport to Jamesport) and otherwise depends on how far we have to go. Call 631 734-WINE (9463) for a quote.

Q – When are the hours of operation of the tasting rooms?

A – Most wineries are open 11am-6pm daily. Some are open on certain days until 7, 8 or 9pm, depending on the time of year. North Fork Designated Driver can help you plan your day depending on the season and your schedule.

Q – When is the best time of year to go winetasting on the North Fork?

A – Every season is very special. Wineries are open year round. Think of coming out during the cooler months, November – March, it is not crowded and you get extra special service by the wineries.

Q – How do we get more information and book a designated driver?

Q – Can you help us pick the wineries to go to?

A – Absolutely. We can help you custom plan your day going to wineries that meet your interests, including: what type of wines you like, entertainment, view, or size. We know the wineries and can offer you a special tour that meets your interests. We can also recommend microbreweries and other spirits that are produced locally.

Q – How many wineries can we go to?

A – That choice is up to you. We usually recommend about four to five. We are totally flexible and if you really like a winery and are having fun you can stay longer.

 Q – How many people can be in my group?

A – It depends what kind of car you have. There has to be a seat belt for each passenger.

Q – We have small children? Can we visit the tasting rooms with them?

A – Yes that is no problem. In fact, that is the beauty of our service. You are using your car, with your car seats and booster seats. We can help suggest wineries that are more “kid friendly” with animals or other fun activities to make your day special. Pack your ball and frisbee too!

Q – We have a small dog. Can we bring it with us?

A – Yes, there are several “pet friendly” wineries and we can suggest some of those to you, as we plan your day.

Q – I never used a designated driver service before and am curious about someone driving my car.

A – North Fork Designated Driver’s hiring policy, requires a  complete background check on all drivers. Our drivers all have excellent driving records. The North Fork Designated Driver has safely driven hundreds of customers over the past three and a half years with an “incident free” driving record. Most drivers are family, friends or recommendations, who live locally and know the area well.

Q – What about insurance?

A – North Fork Designated Driver follows New York State laws regarding insurance. If you own the automobile, the insurance travels with the vehicle regardless of the driver or company. But, if an accident does occur and the owner’s policy or other car’s policy limits do not cover the incident, the designated driver’s policy will kick in to cover the difference or North Fork Designated Driver will pay deductibles. We provide a sober driver and the safest alternative to you to avoid drinking and driving and the consequences.

Q – Can you drive my rental car?

A – Sorry due to insurance policies (at this time) we cannot drive a rental car, unless you make arrangements with your rental car in advance and have us listed. Otherwise we only drive personal vehicles.

Q – What about food?

A – Many wineries have light snacks. Our drivers can recommend restaurants and stop for lunch or dinner. We can also pick up sandwiches or other gourmet treats for your group along the way. Some wineries allow outside food. We can help you with this.

Q – Where are you located?

A – We are based out of Cutchogue, New York right in the heart of Long Island Wine Country. All of our drivers are locals who know the area and make your day special.

Q – Do your rates include gratuity?

A – Optional gratuities are not included and are appreciated by the drivers. About 20% is customary. Of course this is up to you and depends on the service the driver provides.

Q – What is your cancellation policy?

A – -Before 24 hours- total refund, Within 24 hours- $50 will be charged, within 12 hours $100. If you reserved multiple drivers, a 48 hour, instead of 24 hour policy will be in effect.
